If you love what you're doing, think carefully before you quit. Take your passion and turn it into a business of your own. Or, you can seek the courtship of others, but stay at your job until the new one is up and running. As a vocational trapeze artist, you don't want to let go of one ring until the other one swings within reach. Don't let this insensitive "promise breaker" boss destroy your good attitude at work. Boss Person will see your grand success when you move out of his/her shadow. This is the best "revenge" that you could possibly achieve. In the meantime, enjoy the respect of your co-workers and clients. It sounds like you have a significant amount of internal motivation. You will succeed at whatever you do.

Been there done that...I did three peoples job for a year and a half because the company I was working for had hit some hard times then I got some help.
A rookie who had never worked in the field and a I trained him and when it came raise time he gave my trainee a raise and wanted me to move into a commission only position " for the good of the company" (selling on eBaY).
I refused and worked my job(s) until I needed money and decided hey I am goin to sell on eBaY from home... well that was going very well.
Until he found out that could sell more than his eBaY guy and fired me claiming that I was competing with his business.
He had no non-compete agreement with me.
That rookie only lasted 30 days after my departure and he "walked out".
So give it a little time to cool out and see if it works but....
My sugestion - Move on...find another job where there will be no more untrust and you have the opportunity to be happy.
Most times when you move on you find a better opportunity and more compensation.
Keep your pecker up! (as the British would say)

Find a way to start your own business. Instead of working your butt off for someone else's financial success. Why don't you work your butt off for your own financial success. There might be some objections along the way, just step over it. Find something you can start part-time, and keep your current job. After your business grow enough to cover that job, then you can quit and start working on your business full time. If you like network marketing, it's a great way to start, do some research on all the top companies and choose the one that can fit your needs. Not all of them are real and actually work. But there're some that actually work if you have enough ambitions.
If you don't like Network Marketing, how about open your own internet business, like a store... without big investment of renting or inventory.
Email me, thewallessmall@yahoo.com Either one of them you choose, I'll send you the information that you can research more and make decision for yourself.
About that boss of yours. in my opinion if you don't choose to open your own business, i think you should contact the company that offered you an opportunity before and see if they still offer that. Or ... just keep working for this guy for a little more time, wait for a new opporunity, secretly look for a new job around your area, newspaper or the internet.. You might find something better

Well, that's a tough one to say the least. This is what I suggest for you. If you need to be pulling in a higher income I suggest you turn in your two-weeks notice once you've landed a new job. Try Craigslist.com or Hotjobs here on yahoo. They have great job resources and I found my new job on craigslist. So once you do that, you let your boss know. He'll either give you that promotion on the spot and you can proceed with the paperwork or he'll wish you a farewell. In any case, you have to do what's best for you, even if the job you're at is rewarding and you love it there.

i dont know if u boss is a jerk or not!! but most if not all ppl are reasonable, just talk to the guy/girl if u have good and professional relations with him, explain to him ur situation and ur thought of mind tell him how hard uve worked and how u ve grown with the company and be polite and courteous to him while you are doing that, if it still wont work out u ve got 2 choices (or more the once i can not think of) either talk to ur bosses superior or quit, i ll say quit instead of ruining relations, but do not quit until you have another job in site.. hey if it comes down to quittin u ve gotta work there only till u find a new job, i know how u feel i ve been through the same thing.. and it SUCKS...

I understand where you are coming from. You are completely right in how you feel. That was unfair and unethical to lie to you about your promotion. You have to weigh in the pros and cons of staying at that job. Nobody can really decide except you. You know your abilities, your company, how you feel etc.. Take your time and really think things thoroughly. Keep this is mind if they did this to you, comes to show you that they aren't appreciating your hard work or effort and don't just stay with the hope of "well maybe one day they will recognize me." Go with your gut instinct. Best of luck in your decision.

Find another job first. In the meantime, if the new person that's over you is unbearable incompetent person, then quit.

One of the richest men I ever met (a ceo) and founder of a household name company told me once. "If they don't appreciate you where you're working, go somewhere where they do". That's what this man had done after working for many years where he wasn't appreciated and never got raises. True story.
