I want to sell information about my own personal experiences in a pdf file and do not want someone else to copy it, how do I copywrite it?

Alternatively, the adobe pdf can lock your copy so people can view and downloads but can't copy the actual text. Is that more like it? You can find it in options part of pdf.

Of course they can always re-type it but...

You can either go the expensive route and buy a copyright, but considering these are only personal memoirs, I wouldn't shell out the money for such a task. Instead, you should use the "poorman's" copywriting method. Send your notes in a sealed envelope to yourself, and when you get it back through the USPS, don't open it. The date next to the stamp will be your proof that it was yours on that specific date. If for any reason you have to sue someone for legal purposes for stealing your ideas, then you've got the sealed proof that can be used in a court of law.

Post your notes to yourself and keep them safe and unopened until you need to prove your copyright in court etc. The date of postage will prove your copyright unless someone else has the same notes with an earlier date which should be impossible on this ocassion?
