so its a game that ppl often associate with football because it involves a similar looking ball and tackeling. but, inlike in football, rugby players were only mouthguards for protection and cannot actually throw the ball forwards (can only throw it back) its considered to actually be a very civilized sport because the rules about how and when you can tackel are fairly strict (for example no neck tackeling) also, there are lots of complicated rules in the game. so, basic overview, two teams. one kicks off ball to other. point is to run the ball accross the other teams end line and place it on the ground. you can tackel abd kick the ball if u want to. the play is only stopped when the ball goes out of bounds, there is a standstill (noone is able to move) or there is a foul. I am not a violent person but i like the sport. its kinda like a cross between frisbee and soccer (nothing like football except for the tackeling). hope this helps!

William Webb Ellis wasn't playing soccer.

Soccer is short for Association football and this was before the FA came about. It was born out of one of the very many varieties of football that were around at the time.

But no, it's a great sport, very violent if you play it.

Rugby was born out of soccer. A man called William Webb Ellis was playing soccer and he just picked up the ball and ran with it. The World cup trophy for rugby is named after him.
