To achieve balance (homeostasis= balance) ...Let's see: when I'm sad - I cry....which is a consequence of the emotion...when I'm mad- I scream- again a consequence...acting up on the emotion definitely has a catharsis effect when it comes to negative ones ...I guess emotion enables us to achieve homeostasis...if we choose to act upon it- ...choosing an action that releases the tension created by the emotion.
Oh my....I am exhausted after thinking about that question ...I need a glass of water now....I'll go get me a glass of water to achieve homeostasis.
Don't get mad now- if you don't get a lot of answers...usually it's the nonsense questions that get plenty of answers.

Emotions are a chemical reaction to a situation. Thus, we can become addicted to those emotions and put ourselves in situations that bring about things to happen to have these emotions come about. Example: abusive relationships diguised as love, is an emotional issue
