It confirms that he is a nice guy who can show respect to another as a fellow footballer and friend. It confirms he is not taking anything for granted, especially his opponents. Nothing at all wrong with that. I am sure that the other things mentioned have some sort of effect on him. The only thing I disagree with is that France are starting favourites, but in that comment he is showing tact and being a diplomat. This may very well be his last WC too and I hope he has a great game, as I do for Zidane.

Showing respect but strategically as well. Del Piero is a seasoned veteran that is not going to say anything to motivate the other team. He will only talk their position down in fact. Very smart.

Which quote? He said many things. And I am not sure that he was properly quoted by the German reporter. And/or there is strategy in what he is saying.
Italy knows how to play on and off the field!!!!

Yeah.. Del Piero is right.. as a veteran footballer, he really understands what is going to happen in the match.. in other words he would like to say.. it will be "ZIDANE RULES".
