Okay so my friend has asked me to look at his computer. The computer is coming on and everything, but absolutely nothing is coming up on the screen. I tried switching out monitors, but that didn't work, so I am assuming it is the video card. I have basically two questions, first is there any way I can be sure it is the video card BEFORE I have him go buy a new one, and second, if it isn't the video card does anyway have any other ideas as to what the problem might be.

ok u say the pc turnes on but no pic it sounds like the vid card call the mfg of the pc and ask them if it is a onbord vid card on the mother board or if it is a pci or agp card if it is the one on the mother it posibal that he actadeliley ulinstalled the driver for it and you shold ask the mfg how to reinstall u may need to add a vid card to get the screen to come on so u can reinstall the new driver and once the on board driver is on u can uninstll the vid card u put in. if that dont work or if he has a agp or pci card try contacting the mfg for that card and get the drivers for it. it that dose not work i sugest that u purchuse a new vid card to do this u can ask the mfg pf the pc what kind is ok for this pc such as a pci or a agp 8x or 4x. 16 32 64 128 256 512 of mem after u get the info about this go to tigerdirect.com and look aroung for vid cards that the mfg said r compatibal. i got a vid card from tigerdirect fo my pc a 256 mb 350mhz core clock for 60.00 and its grate and works will all 3d games and more its also hookup up to my big screen tv pic is clear as day.

Do you hear a beep after you push the ON button but before the computer loads Windows? Do you even see the Windows loading screen? Problems to check for:

1) Hardware Compatibility, make sure everything is plugged in correctly and is supported by the motherboard.

2) Hard Disc, the boot sector of your hard disc might be damaged, verify that it is bootable.

3) Video Card, make sure the power supply can supply adequate power for it to run.

4) Connections, plug in everything and make sure it's all plugged in all the way.

if the card is not on board just try to give it out and run a computer. it should make a beep two times by booting thats a signal that there isnt a video card. than give the card back if it always make the beep than is the problem by the card

It is possibel that the contrast may have become 0. Bring it to about 80 to 90%. It should work.

It is also possible that he may have accidently changed the display mode. You can start the pc in safe by continuously pressin F8 when or before windows is loading. Then select the frequency one by one. It should work.

If you have a spare video card ask the swap it with the present one and you'll come to know about it. If its integrated in the system-board then you need to change the system board.

See if he has on-board video. Many motherboards do. Also, see if anyone you know has an old video card laying around to test it. I have like 3 old ones in my closet.
