Yeah thats just lots of swelling. The heat/warmth there is because of the blood getting there to promote healing. It is cool on the "tips" because it is the ankle where all the blood is. Also because of all the swelling and extra fluid in your ankle it is probably temporarily squishing or pinching your nerve that goes to the tips of your toes which is why it feels numb. Take the advil and definitely put the compression bandage on. Also, elevating your foot will help it heal.

A sprained or strained ankle can take weeks to months for the pain or soreness to completely disappear.. Primarily need to keep the swelling reduced as much as possible...alternating heat and ice will help.

Why bother going to the ER if you are not going to get it X ray-ed to make sure there is not a fracture. Yes a sprained ankle can hurt as bad as a break. But without X rays you have no way of knowing if you fractured your ankle or not: Get your money back.

don't know why they didn't ex-ray either. ice it to help pain and swelling. go to an orthopedic as soon as possible to follow up! how's the color in ur foot? pinch ur toe lightly and see if the color comes back quickly, if not go to er...that's more of a sign of no blood flow. it's probably going to fine, don't stress out about it too much. it takes time to heal also, but best to get checked by specialist also. if u have crutches, use them till u get to dr.
take care!!!

i have the same problem. i thought it was gout or something but it was negative. then i had it x rayed but didnt show much. then i got an cat scan. it turned out to be a talar dome lesion. right above the ankle theres a gap with broken bone chips and tissue. hurts like hell sometimes but it doesnt neccesarily need surgery. have it x rayed first if it isnt a simple sprain.

it sounds like u sprained ur ankle, all u can do is try to stay off it as much as possible and ice it for 15 mins then take ice off for ten mins repeat process until u notice the swelling to go down. its goin to hurt, all u can do is take pain pills.
