I like to give those REALLY big legos. They are called "Quadros", I think. They are even bigger than duplos.
They are educational and they can help the child develop their motor skills....and if all else fails, they can have fun throwing them across the room! LOL.

Basiclly give his something that will stimulate his sense at this stage in life all of his sense are tunning and adjusting its a great time to give his plenty of stimuli such as a furry soft cuddly bear or something will give your brother something more than a toy it could help with his sensory skills as there are developing also could help as a security item.

There's a million different things you can get for a one year old but if you are looking for something special, I'd buy a bunch of board books (they are books that aren't made of paper, but boards, if you didn't know...) and write a little something in each of them that they are from his big sister and that you want to be there for him to read each of those books to him. It's the gift that keeps on giving!

It depends what he likes. For a one year old, Coloured Building blocks can be a really interesting game and it's very educational. The blocks have to be big because small ones can be choke hazades. You can even buy him a small push scooter or car. I know they love it

an inexpensive toy in a really big cardboard box, lots of tissue paper and wrapping paper. Kids love cardboard boxes and wrapping paper. If we all could be amused by the simple things in life.

Educational fun toys. Early exposure to educational toys now brings promise of him being a top student in school.

The newest Elmo will be coming out soon at toy stores. I haven't met a kid yet that didn't love Elmo. My son loved his Hokey Pokey Elmo last year when he turned one.
