I always start at Chapter one...
I never read the Introductions and forwards.

Am I missing anything important?

At least skim through them. It might be important to the story in some books, but not in others. Forwards are usually part of the storyline and should not be skipped. Introductions usually tell about the writing of the book, but look just in case--and it might be interesting.

I tend to skip the introductory part to save time. Many introductions are boring and contains things that we can find out by ourselves when reading the later chapters

usually its best to read the introductions and fowards. expecially in mystery novels and such. cause usually introductions will give you hints about what's to come in the later chapters, and some important stuff that you might or might not want to know

I skip them all the time. It's just a set up for the story, or a little background information on the characters. Nothing that you won't find out later in the book.

i do the same thing. Intros, usually, have nothing to do with the plot of the book. It's usually the author telling you about his life or some crap. Although I do read the first few sentences of the intro - just to see if it isn't that crap. And it usually is.

I read the prologue if there is one, but that's it. I never read the forewords or the messages from the author.
