Suffering, death and atrocity. Same deal with every war. Then one day it stops because one side gets sick of fighting or no longer has the means to fight. Who wins ultimately will make no difference in the course of human history, it is a meaningless war with meaningless actors and all that have died on both sides have done so in complete and utter vain. Their sacrifice was for quite literally nothing, whether they were jihadists or coalition military personnel or just some random civilian or aid worker.

The Middle East is a backward hellhole filled with people cutting each others heads off and in 200 years it will be a backward hellhole filled with people cutting each others heads off over the same tired religious tripe.

The U.S. will get their 2nd Vietnam.

80+% of the Iraqis want the U.S. out.

Iran will not let the U.S. control Iraq.

The U.S. simply can not win.
Unfortunately, the U.S. is repeating the mistake the the British learned the hard way in the last century. The Iraqis will not be dominated by a western power.

Hmm...energetic: did you by any chance ever happen to see that blog on myspace with the photo album that included pictures "You'll never see this on the news"?

It was heart-warming to see Iraqis hold up signs thanking the US and kids hugging soldiers with a Coke in their hand and soccer ball in the other.
