I have been living in Miami for 13 years. I too have a love hate relationship with this city. The diversity of people, food, music etc. is great. The weather(especially the "winter" months is near perfect). Unfortunately, unless you make over $100,000 you cannot buy a house/condo here. Houses are way over $300,000 and condos over $200,000 and these are average older residences. Rents for 1 bedrooms are now over $900.00 a month. All types of insurances are high here. Unfortunately the salaries here are stagnant. Everything bought and sold is from foreigners. We have some of the worst drivers I have ever seen and the people here can be rude and extremely superficial. It seems everyone drives a BMW, even if you can't afford one. There are enough fake boobs and steroid men to fill another state. Miami is a poorly designed city with an atrocious public transportation system. As many foreigners moving here are there as many people moving out to other states. The reason I hear over and over again, is the outrageous cost of living and the declining quality of life.

south florida is good if you have a lot of money. i'd say it's comfortable if you earn $100,000. a year, if you don't there is no hope of ever buying a house or a condo with more than 1 room. on the same topic everyone tries to act rich even when you know they aren't , it's CRAZY! BUT it is beautiful here, hurricanes can be fun and you can find some nice people here...but keep those toenails polished well, and look good or you will feel like an outsider...north florida is quite nice and it has a different kind of beauty and it's not expensive.

I have been living in Miami for over 25 years. I have a love hate relationship with this city. I love the latin culture with it's salsa, cuban coffee, and mojitos, plus the most beautiful people I have seen in the United States and I have traveled a bit. I hate the crazy drivers, sometimes having to speak in spanish (when I am tired) in Hialeah, and the high cost of living with not enough pay.
