AT DINNER, WHEN YOU WANT TO HAVE A BOTTLE OF A PARTICULAR WINE AND YOUR COMPNION WANTS SOMETHING ELSE, HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH THIS. THIS IS PARTICULARLY VEXING WHRN WE ARE TALKING OF VINTAGE BOTTLES OF SIMILAR WINES. COST IS IRRELEVANT, BUT TASTE IS PARAMOUNT. AND, NO, WE WILL NOT BUY TWO BOTTLES OF WINE TO SETTLE THESE SORTS OF DISAGREEMENTS.

If this is something you do often, why not try his one night and hers the next.

If there is no way to agree or compromise, why not order only a glass of yours and a glass of his (if that is possible)?

Otherwise, you will have to each buy your own bottle, or none at all. If this is a person you enjoy spending time with, you should be able to come up with a compromise on the wine, no matter how important you think it is.

It is only wine when compared to a friendship. You really should set aside these petty differences and enjoy your dinner together.

It's called compromise... One night you get what she wants and one night what you want.
If you are at a nice place, they might still have vintage wines by the glass, you can always ask.
Also, depending on where you are from, some states allow you to take the bottle home if you don't finish it. So, you might be able to get two bottles after all. NY just passed that ruling.

If the cost is irrelevant, you and your companion should be able to order what you want, especially if they are paying for their part of the meal.

If you have to be in control, it sounds like the companion is the problem, not the wine. Put an ad out for someone who needs to be taken care of and doesn't care if their own desires/wants/needs are met. That should take care of those vexing arguments. Don't forget to list, in that ad, that they are expected to pay for part of the check.

(Sorry for the sour grapes...)

2 possible solutions:

1. if you are a man and your companion is a woman you wish to "be with" later in the evening, let her choose.

2. if your companion is a friend, flip a gold coin.

consider another wine. not ur option , not ur partners option , but a third one that you both agree on... or ask for one kind of wine one day (wether its ur partners or ur choice) and then another kind other day :)
