Unbutton the shirt all the way; including the sleeves and collar.
Lay the shirt flat on the ironing board.
Start by ironing the back of the shirt; lay it "face down".
Move the iron up and down, working your way along the shirt. Don't keep the surface of the iron on the fabric for more than a few seconds, or else your shirt will burn.
Once you're done ironing the back, work your way along each side of the shirt, by gradually rotating the it to each side of the ironing board.
Lay the shirt on the ironing board so that the sleeve you are ironing is parallel to the ironing board.
Press the back and front of each sleeve, and make sure to maintain the shirt's creases. Don't forget to iron the opened cuff of each sleeve.
Iron both sides of the shirt collar, then iron the folded collar to maintain its creases.

Fill your iron with distilled water (if you have this feature, if not fill a spray bottle with distilled water) There should be a hole near the "point" if this feature is availible.
Set up your board or flat surface
Plug in your Iron and wait 3 minutes
Be sure your iron is set to "cotton" or the fabric you are working with. If your iron has numbers use the middle one unless the fabric is silk (then go with the lowest setting)
Get out your spray starch (if stiffness is desired)
Since you are new, start with the easy part-
Lay your shirt with the button hole side along the left side of the board. Pull it so the "shoulder" fits into the square side of the ironing board. This will flatten it out for you.
Spray with water or squeeze your button as you go if you hit wrinkle that doesn't smooth after two passes. Also use for any wrinkles you accidentally add yourself. (don't ever use water or starch for silk)
Slide the Iron over the flat part of the shirt fairly quickly - like you are frosting a cake or blow drying someone's hair. Too long in one place and you may burn it.
Repeat on the Button side, just be sure to use the pointy part of the iron to get between the buttons.
Now flip the shirt over and do the same on each side of the lower part of the back.
Iron just the wrinkles on the top of the back - ignore crease for now.
Put your left index finger on the spot where the right side of the back crease starts and pull the fabric about a foot below it with your right hand to extend the crease.
Lay it Gently down this way, keeping your right hand in place. Replace your finger with the iron at the top and press the crease with the iron to make it stay.
Repeat with the left side.
Run iron over both to solidify crease.
Be sure you have gotten all the wrinkes up to the collar.
Put shirt "standing up" by the shoulder on the pointy end of the board, so that you can iron out shoulder wrinkles.
Repeat for other side.
Pinch arm by shoulder and wrist so it folds along the seam.
Lay it down in the middle of the board so the arm seam is straight.
Starting at the seam Iron up to but not across the top.
Roll sleeve slightly to get any wrinkles across the top of the fold.
Repeat for other arm.
Check sides. If ness. lay across the flat side of the board and iron as you did the front and back.
Once all the wrinkles are out besides the collar, lay the collar flat and spray one or both sides with starch if you want.
Iron collar flat.
Fold collar in half and iron fold in.
If the collar is too stiff you may need to bend it around a bit so it lays properly about his/your neck.
I think that is all you need. Good Luck and God bless.

It depends one what kind if your talking about a dress shirt with collar button all the way down. I would line up the sleeves and iron for a crease then iron the front and then the back but they have the thing in the back like someone sewed the shirt on both sides in the middle line that all the way down and crease but it all depends on the shirt
