Budget woes hit Army posts nationwide
By LIZ AUSTIN, Associated Press Writer Thu Jul 6, 3:51 PM ET

FORT SAM HOUSTON, Texas - A diversion of dollars to help fight the war in Iraq has helped create a $530 million shortfall for Army posts at home and abroad, leaving some unable to pay utility bills or even cut the grass.

In San Antonio, Fort Sam Houston hasn't been able to pay its $1.4 million monthly utility bill since March, prompting workers in many of the post's administrative buildings to get automated disconnection notices.

Fort Bragg in North Carolina can't afford to buy pens, paper or other office supplies until the new fiscal year starts in October.

And in Kentucky, Fort Knox had to close one of its eight dining halls for a month and lay off 133 contract workers.

"Every time something goes away it impacts a person ... a soldier or their family or one of our civilians," said Col. Wendy Martinson, garrison commander at Fort Sam Houston,

Shame on you Bush; you give money to the Iraq people that you have taken away from the poor. You have failed all Americans with your desire to be the American Caesar. Your smirking makes Americans sick to their stomachs.

Our Constitution gives me the right to ask the question; that is called free expression. I am a fifty-eight year old Vietnam War veteran who fought for our rights. I have a PhD and am every well versed on the Founding Fathers. The question does not question the presidential requirements of birth and age.

Absolutely!

He obviously doesn't know anything about economics or what is really means to be a Christian. He has ran our economy into the ground... let me rephrase... for the poor not the rich. He seems to have gone back to Reagan economics expecting it to trickle down. That failed in the 80s and it failing now.

As far as Christianity, I have been a Christian all my life and my Christianity says that you don't go occupy another country and kill ppl just because you desire a different form of government there. If the ppl wanted liberating there, sure we would have helped a revolution.

I think most of the American ppl are coming to realize that he never knew what he was doing and there was a bigger agenda behind the scenes from the very beginning.

What has his education got to do with his Presidency.

Our Constitution does not require any degree of intelligence to become President. It only requires that the person be at least 35 year old and has been born in the United States. NOTHING MORE

So why are we making so much to do with his "smarts" or the "smarts" of any other President or Candidate.

Our Founding Fathers were happy enough with just "birth and age" so if it was good enough for them,...what's the grumble?

He did a pretty good job of governing Texas for 8 years, and
he's doing a pretty good job in the war on terror. He's not doing
such a good job of securing the Mexican/ USA border.
