Only fly?
Well, hook it on, raise it, give it a salute if you want, then wrap the halyard good and tight.
DO NOT let it touch the ground.
If it rains (unless you have a storm flag which is made for rainy weather) bring it down, and let it dry until the storm passes.
At night, there should be a light shining on it. If not, it should come down, and be properly folded. Folding the flag is easier showed than explained. With 2 or more people, it's really not hard though. Google it.
If you want to fly your state flag too, fly the state under the national.
If you have other flag poles, the National goes on it's own right, or in the middle and higher than the others.
If you live in the south, please don't make your pole an example of irony by putting the confederate flag under the National. It's really stupid and rednecky.
Other than that, just do what you feel is respectable. At least you still have some pride in the country. Salutes to you my friend.

On a normal day, upright(stars close to the pole at the top) all the way to the top of the pole. Do not fly at night unless lit and do night fly in adverse weather(rain/storms etc). Should the nation be in a time of mourning, the flag is flown only halfway up the pole. should you be in distress and need help, that is the only time you fly it with the stars at the bottom of the flag. Raise the flag quickly and lower slowly. thats about it.

well If you have one, Besure that it is always at Full staff. meaing to the very top of Flag pole. On holidays such as Memorial day or Labor day, you flie the falg at half staff is done in remeberance of fallen hero's. When you see a flag any other day flown at half mast, that means it is done my Presidential Proclamation or by the Govenors Office. This is also done when someone of imortance dies. You are to do the same out of respect. every evening, the flag should be taken down at Sunset. this is called evening colors. You can get the exact sunset from a famers almanac or the eveing News....I hope this helps
