Your best bet would be to contact your local American Legion, who dispose of American flags with respect, and in the proper manner, which is burning.

There is a proper burning ceremony for old and damaged U.S. flags. Contact a local veterans group to find out what is acceptable in your area.

Take it to the local American Legion post. They will dispose of it for you. Every so often, they will burn the old flags.

do the same thing as me , throw it in the garbage, It is the most proper way because it is the easiest. Break it and tear it into many peaces if it is big. But you can also recycle and separate the matreial. Wood in one bag. Tear off the silk and dispose it in another recyclyng bag.

Bring it to one of these organizations:
VFW @ vfw.org
American Legion @ legion.org
Boy Scouts of America @ scouting.org
Girl Scouts of America @ girlscouts.org
Marine Corps League @ mcleague.com
They will retire the flag properly.

Bring it your local city hall or boy scout troop and they will dispose of it for you. You usually have it burned in a type of ceremony.

Take it to the VFW, American Legion, or Fleet Reserve and let them dispose of it properly.
If you try to burn or degrade it, and I see you, there will be problems.

Burning it. But don't think or say controversial thoughts about the government; people will call you a traitor.
