The age of majority in California is 18. See California Family Code sections 6500, 6501.
I would suggest those of you misinformed individuals handing out misinformation do your research before you give advice to a teenager. If this little girl had run out on her parents based upon your misinformation, it could have caused a lot of problems. Take some responsibility and don't give advice on things you know nothing about.

no. law says you must be 18. But there could be the doctrine of Emancipation: with the consent of the parents, a child may be "on his own". The usual criteria of Emancipation are that, with parents consent the child is working and supporting himself and regarded as being in the world.Emancipation has bearing on various legal points concerning responsibility of both the child and the parents.
