You can't. At least not without trying some out. There are two ways to go about this.

1) go to a makeup counter in the mall. The ladies there will be happy to tell you which of THEIR products you can use, and teach you to apply them. Only do this if you have at least $150 to spend or if you can resist the sales pitch and go buy something similar at the drug store later.

2) Start at the drug store, get 3 or 4 that are close to your skin color (remember you need blemish cover, foundation, and powder unless you get a product that combines the last two). Try them out. Wear each one on a day outing with a good friend and ask them their honest opinion. The bad news is you may have to do this twice and you will end up buying things you can't use. Practice makes perfect in this area - I know it seems like other girls know this naturally, but that is what they want you to think, they had to learn it too.
