Because the lyrics are often so trite and melodramatic.

I like country, Shania Twain is exellent I'm allways singing in class 13 before you ask. I've been learning violin for 2 years now and I wont ever give up on it. Some tunes in potc are played on the violin they are great. I'm watchng dead mans chest today 4:30 and cant wait!!!!!!!!!!! Its beause the media publicises pop and disco soo much people think country is un cool or somthing. I like some of it but i prefer jazz and ballads like my heart will go on Celion Dion and somewhere over the rainbow but only Judy Garlends version. I'm allways up singing them at areoke along with dancing queen, I've done I'll allways love you Whitney Houstaine a few times Nicklebacks how you remind me and gloria gania I will survive once. Whitney is hard but i can hold the note and do the tones if only i had a good voice i'd nail it!

I don't dislike country music. I grew up in a family that listened to Bob Wills and Jimmy Dickens ...

But I left country music behind me when I left Texas.

Why? Because there is far greater, more profound music with far greater, more profound words in the world than than listening to someone rhyming moon with June while learning three cords on a guitar.

I will admit to admiring some of the lyrics of songwriters like Kris Kristofferson or Micky Newberry or Jerry Jeff Walker because many of their songs reach beyond a simplistic point of view.

The problem with most country music lovers is that they seem to find comfort in a simplistic point of view and most will never go exploring the joys and mental and emotional rewards of Classical or Opera or World Music or Spoken Word or even Van Morrison or Leonard Cohen.

People hate country for the same reason people hate hip-hop: there are so many people saying "this music is bad" that few people even give it a chance. The whole hatred of country music has transcended time, mostly because people have just been assuming things about country music for years. Instead of actually listening to country, a lot of people experience it through "word of mouth".... sure, a lot of them say things like "it's all sad songs about trucks and losing women and dogs and stuff" but they say it because other people say it. If more people actually dedicated some time to LISTEN to country, more people would like it.

I was just about to ask the same thing, probally because people won't think they are hardcore if they listen to country, well.thats the reason for everyone I know,I like country, but I don't really like listening to it,if that makes sense, country just depresses me for some reason...OH,now I remember,God,that was embarrassing!

Because most people lack the diversity and the taste to actually broading their horizons. Most are just lemmings ready to jump when others jump. They listen to mind nulling music that degrade women, talk about killing people, or drugs with videos of half naked women shaking there thing.
