Not saying its right but lets face it... Some species has to be at the top.

Yeah, I dunno. I guess nothing is ever satisfying. Well, why not? If its out there and we have the determination to go for it, then what the hell. At least we can say that we have a goal that we're trying to reach, something that will keep the spark in our lives of wanting to keep living for something. And there's so much out there to experience, how can that be bad thing. To want to better our lives?
We do need to be content with what we have, but at the same time we can't just say, "okay, that's enough for me, these soda crackers are quite satisfying, how 'bout you". Although I would prefer Ritz crackers instead, those are way better. So whats the harm in going to the store and buying better crackers for yourself.
Why settle for less if you can have more?

i thing it's a part of the human nature. We have an instant drive towards perfection. According to me there is nothing wrong about it. In fact it is what makes us go ahead and try to do better every time. Don't worry you are not alone. Everyone feels the same way sometimes.

Some people are in a constant state of wanting more things, money, or whatever. We outpicture what we focus on - if we focus on getting things, that's what we'll be doing. Let's face it, if you want more money, then get it, you'll just want more and more. There is never enough. The Buddhists try to live in a state of non-desire to avoid this situation. The answer is never more stuff.

Man has always had an insatible desire to improve on what he has, to quest into the unknown, to see what's on the other side, to perhaps make things better, or to build a better mousetrap. If man did not have that instinct where would we be today? Without that instinct, humanity would stagnate. And if we stagnate, we cease to be.

If you mean we are never conformed to what we have, it is because there is a minority of us that are not content to follow the status quo. We reject the sameness of our own life, or of tradition and follow our hearts, We question authority, and are, thus, castigated for it; we are also given labels such as "anti-socials", "wierdos", "radicals" or "extremists". Then if you meant why are we never comforted by what we have, well hell, then that's a whole nother answer.

First of all not humans want more than they have, only Westerner's or should I say people of "industrialized cultures". Indigenous peoples are very satisfied.
But for the rest of us who do fall into your category, we have been raised by our culture to be so competivtive, this is part of capitalism, not human nature.

I'm not sure what you mean by this, but I am happy with all that I got. I got a roof over my head, food in my stomach, clothes on my back, a great boyfriend, 2 beautiful children and a great family. I don't need any more than that.

I really don't know...but it's sad. Maybe because society is set up around commerce, and commerce only exists if people want to buy things. If we are content with what we have, companies won't make as much money, so they hit us hard with advertising to make us believe we need more and more and more. I wish we could all learn to live with less....

it's a superiority complex... just human nature.
but i'm sure there are some hippies living out in the woods (like thoreau or something) who've come close to being content with the opposite of materialism
