Depends on what city you are going to but 32 hours and 37 minutes from border to border, don't forget you'll cross time zones so you'll "get back" 2 or 3 of those hours on the way there.

don't believe Mapquests' times. They divide distance by posted speed limit and arrive at a fairy tale figure The times that they give point to point on long trips are border line irresponsible. Their routing is also suspect, in an effort to find the shortest route they use a combination of US highways and interstates- thereby increasing the Danger factor.
A realistic time for any long road trip[ 600+ miles] is 50 mph. This allows for traffic , gas stops, food, the usual.
Mapquest says it's 2150 miles from Richmond to Flagstaff via I-64, 81, and 40 divide that by 50 mph and you get a more realistic 43 hours-which is still fast. If you had used Mapquests' time of 31.5 hrs you would have had to average 68.25 mph- totally unrealistic.
spend a night in a hotel in Memphis - good idea- and add 8 hours.
go to Phoenix add 2hrs.
drive carefully and remember a tired driver is a dangerous driver
