Well your teeth begin to yellow as you age, and according to what you eat and drink. I had teeth whitening a couple times, the first time with peroxide gel and teeth trays - it did make a difference. The second time, I went to a cosmetic difference and got the BriteSmile teeth whitening treatment. It did work, but not as dramatically as they tell you. So if you're not happy with the color of your teeth, I would say go ahead and try getting them whitened.

I am a freak about my teeth. I use a sonic toothbrush and floss daily and I bleach every 6 months. I use stuff I got frm my dentist. My friend didn't have the money and he used the Crest whitestrips and had a really great result. I would avoid coffee, tea and sodas. I always drink through a straw to avoid it coming into contact with my teeth.

The whitener in toothpaste is for surface stains -- coffee, tea, etc. For real whitening, ask your dentist -- the can reccomend something, or set you up with a bleach kit.

I haven't had any success with the over-the-counter products.

The Dental office versions do work.
Type 1)
Nightly gel application works and is reasonably painless, but has to be repeated somewhat frequently.

Type 2)
"Zoom" brand UV light.
This is fast, and happens in the dental office, but is quite painful and expensive.

These are the only two types that I am familiar with.

take care.
:-)
