The town where I went to high school: population 9,000. That's tiny considering I live in California's central valley. Everybody knew everybody's business and it had a small town feel to it.

There are plenty of small towns in New England that closely resemble Stars Hollow. ASP (creator of GG) got the idea from a small town called Washington Depot, CT. It's not nearly as crazy as Stars Hollow, but it does have the small town charm... Gilmore Girls is filmed on the Warner Bros. backlot in Burbank... They use 3 sound stages (one is the Gilmore Mansion, one is Yale and one is the Crap Shack/Dragonfly Inn). The majority of their sets however are practical sets (The Diner, The Soda Shoppe, Miss Pattys, Kim's Antiques), in which they shoot exterior and exterior shots. The street on the Backlot where they do most of the shooting is Mid-West Street, but it is better known as "Any-Town USA". My favorite thing about it though is the Crapshack/Sookies house. If you're on one side of the street the house is Sookies, but if you go around the back its the Crapshack! They don't do any interior shots in this house, just exterior stuff. If you are around at the Crapshack side there's the Gilmore Mailbox and the Chuppa, which are great for photo ops! I work at Warner Bros. in the tour dept., so I do this for a living. I could spend all day showing people the inner workings of Gilmore Girls...

Amy Sherman-Palladino based Stars Hollow on the Connecticut town of Washington Depot. The zip code Stars Hollow uses, 06492, is Wallingford Connecticut.
It is about 44 miles (43.38 to be exact) between Wallingrod, Ct, and Washington Depot, CT.

Probably - just find any small town in America and it's similar, but not exactly like a fictional tv show.
