If there's an abnormality inside my uterus..what test is the best for me? HSG or TV UTZ? Based on my understanding..both test can diagnose an abnormality. Is it possible to diagnose any abnormality using HSG that TV UTZ cannot or TV UTZ can diagnose the abnormality that HSG cannot? If HSG can reveal all the abnormality that TV UTZ can do to..it only means that HSG is better than the TV UTZ because HSG can also diagnose infertilty as well as any abnormality.

a hysterosalphingogram is an xray procedure, making use of a dye injected through a specialized cathether inserted through the cervix into the uterine cavity. its primary purpose is to delineate the anatomy of the uterine cavity, as well as the patency of the fallopian tubes.

a transvaginal ultrasound, well, its an ultrasound procedure making use of a specialized ultrasound probe inserted into the vagina up to the cervix. it can show the anatomy of the uterus itself, its size, whether or not there are abnormal masses (like myomas or tumors), as well as look into the surrounding organs like the ovaries and tubes.

we don't say that one procedure is better than the other. both procedures, as well as others, complement each other especially when you are unergoing infertility studies.

the strong suit of an HSG is that we can visualize the uterine cavity and the lumen of the fallopian tubes, so if the problem is within these regions, it may be the 1st procedure of choice.

however, if the problem lies in the wall of the uterus or cervix, or outside, like in the ovaries, then a trans-vaginal ultrasound may give better information.

"Hysterosalpingogram
A HSG is a picture of the uterus and tubes and can show up problems inside them. A special dye taht can be montored on an X-ray screen is slowly injected into the uterus and should pass into the fallopian tubes. If it fails to do so, there may be some damage, distortion or blockage. A similar procedure is sometimes done with ultrasound instead of X-rays.

Many women don't notice pain, whilst others feel a small amount of cramping afterwards. Some doctors will recommend that you spend the rest of the day resting. "

Transvaginal Ultrasound:
A probe inserted into the vagina to get a closer and more magnified view of the ovaries, uterus and embryo. It uses the same technology as a transabdominal one.

I have had both done....A Hysterosalpingogram is where they shoot dye up inside of you and take x-rays and an Transvaginal Ultrasound is a tool that scans inside you..

The difference is the dye...

The Hystosalpingogram all they do is check your tubes and put die inside of you to see if your tubes are blocked and they look on a screen to make sure the die is flowing through where it is suppost to. A vaginal ultrasound i dont really know much about but it is possible to see cyst and things of that nature with an ultra sound. I get one every month to check for follicle but that is just my ovaries cause that is my problem. Good luck and i wish you the best.

Unless I am mistaken, one is done from the surface of your stomach and the other, they have to insert a wand into the vaginal canal...usually for tilted uterus and such.
