I just came up with this question a little while ago and it occured to me, whats to stop the American people from uprising against the government? Aside from devoted millitary personnell, who else would stand against us? So, in an attempt to prove a point about whos side the majority of the american people are on, I ask you this: If there were a civil uprising in America against our current government, would you fight to defend the government or the people? Whose side would you risk and or give your life for? And also, why do you choose this side and not the other?

well cdf-rom, our government has become rich and powerful. And patrick, nothing is stopping the government of overthrowing the people because it already has. Go vote? Ppppft! Thtas my original argument. You only get so many options to vote for, and they're almost always garbage. At least since reagan.

The Constitution says for the people by the people. It's just our current administration causing Americas problems. Bush ignores the Constitution and does as he pleases.

That's why so many people are against the Second Amendment so that the people will no longer have the option of revolting.
However, at some point in the future, an evil military leader could take over the country, all because someone set it up for him, not realizing that future generations might not be people of goodwill as they were.
This is why we can't risk getting rid of the Second Amendment!

I don't think by the way you phrased the question that many would say anything other than the people. In the event of a corrupt government it is not only our right but our duty as citizens to rise up again them. However saying that you have to determine what is a corrupt government. That's the only way you will be able to figure out who how many would revolt. The ones the think it's corrupt now will be saying everything is cool with the government if their party wins the next election.

If there were another civil war in this country, I wouldn't fight on either side. Neither would most of the country, because nobody wins in a civil war. It is a pointless blood bath, a petty political struggle for power. If you declare war on yourself then you lose. Trying to change our government by means of violence is completely anti-thetical to what democracy is, has been and should always be. I wouldn't risk my life for any foolish rebellion or for any corrupt government, human life is worth more than foolish political struggles. I choose no side because both sides suck.
Never trust a politician my friends, whether they are carrying a gun or speaking on the television.

Um....it depends on what the civil uprising was about! If I AGREED with the govt, I would fight with them. Against, I'd fight for the people. I dont know what kind of technology the average american citizen has to defeat the US Govt, but if I felt strongly about something, and I mean STRONGLY, I'd give my life fighting for either side...it comes down to MY morals, judgements, and beliefs. I do believe that it is the right of the people to fight against the govt if it does become corrupt. (hmm maybe it IS about time)

Tyranny is when the people fear the government.... A constitutional republic is when the government fears the people. The reason we have the right constitutionally to bare arms and form a militia, is to protect ourselves against a corrupted government. Power to the people.

No one thats what Karl Marx said that the true power resides with the worker and not the manager. I would fight for the people because the government exists for the people, so if the people are fighting it then the government is not doing its job.

We don't "uprise" as you so call it. We speak out and use our mouths in a civilized manner.
What don't you like about the government? The fact is that a majority of the people don't agree with you.

i would choose my country! I will fight and die for my country and even the U.S. flag. I am a veteran of the U.S. Army and I will gladly put my nations uniform on again and defend any apossers foreighn or demestic. I believe in America, and i believe in what it stands for! Heres a better question, whats stopping the government from taking over the people?
