Be proud of who you are! Screw what other people think! Being of Mexican heritage is beautiful! Don't feel ashamed of yourself just because some backwards idiot thinks that you aren't wonderful. You are so much more than just a nationality!

Don't worry the north Americans have a lot more to be ashamed about .

but the sad truth is that the politics are leaning towards fascism and the future will see persecutions of minority groups ,which include Latins,Black,Gay,Pot smokers etc.
it is very possible that these will become second class citizens ,like the South African Apartheid.

And the Mexicans will be far better off ,by going home and build up their own economy to parallel the USA
the recourse's are more ,the climate is better
and that is where all the families are.

because i think they could make life hell for those that stay behind ,if ever Arnie gets in ,

Although the strategy is already old and planned well ahead ,irrespective of what president gets into power.

It sucks. This 'immigration' stuff and 'securing our borders'-- like Mexican citizens are going to declare wasr on us? Is CRAP. I'm really sorry that you have to deal with it.
Please be proud of who you are. Read some about Mexican history-- it's pretty exciting-- and find out who the Mexican heros were. It's terrible that someone else would respond negatively to your ethnicity, but most important is that you know in your heart that you are special, and you come from a history of strong people.

When someone asks your ethnicity, it is hard to say you are Mexican. Best is you say it and you are proud of it. Or, if you are a citizen, say Mexican-American. It is more correct anyways. But you can also say you are hispanic, then they don't know if you are puerto rican or spanish or what. Or say it is none of their business. Or change the subject. Or start talking about a story on the other side of the family that's exciting. Or just say you are American through and through, which you and all of us are.

Again, I am so sad that my country is doing so much wrong right now, including the way Mexicans or Mexican-Americans are being treated.

Have people been making any direct comments to you to make you feel ashamed? I'm half Mexican also and I have not had any issues or comments from anyone concerning the current immigration issue. Even so, you shouldn't be ashamed! This sounds very 'after school special' but you should be proud of your roots! Don't let this whole thing get to you. People will think what they think, but you need to just do your thing and don't even worry about them.

Find some positive role models from your race that you can focus on. I am sure there must be many. If this doesn't help I would suggest some counselling. We should all be proud of who we are.

Prejudice is one of my pet peeves. I was just having a discussion about this with a friend. It comes in all races sadly enough. Not just the white race. It is guarenteed that there are Mexicans who are prejudiced against others. Blacks are prejudiced aginst other races. Not all but some. Some people of Chinese origin hate people who are different from themselves. I have experienced this first hand.

You need to sink or swim. How will you feel if your origin comes out and people realize that you are living a lie? Shame is a terrible burden. Get some help with this or it will eat you up.

Every race has had issues at one time or another.
Germans, Jewish, Blacks, Italians, to name a few. And now it's mexicans. The great difference is that no one had to make adjustments to/for other races, as much as the spanish people demand. That's basically what's wrong with spanish speaking individuals. This is nothing new. It's been going on forever.
And if you're uncomfortable, than be a proud AMERICAN!.

If there are people who are giving you problems simply because of your race then that means they are bigots and you should either ignore them or tell them to go off themselves. Just because there are problems with one group of people doesn't mean people should lump others into a category based on an arbitrary thing like race. Technically in the politically correct world you could say you are half Hispanic and still not be lying about having Mexican ancestory. You really have nothing to be ashamed of.

There is only one race--the human race. The problems which we call racial are really problems relating to cultural differences. By that I mean the way in which different groups go about living their lives, what is important to them, and etc.

Realistically, the problems you face because of your heritage is Hispanic and you live in the U.S. are not going to go away. And you cannot control how other people think about you.

What you can do is control your own behavior and thinking. Be the very best you can be. Do the best you can do at everything you attempt. Decide to make of your life something that you, your family, and your friends can be proud of. And do not allow bitterness to take hold of your heart. It will hurt no one but yourself.

Remember, too, that the issue is a complicated one. All inter-cultural issues are complicated. I know because I've lived overseas half my life. You can't take on emotionally what you perceive are the prejudices of a country in general. People get to like each other one by one and making friends, even if it's only one or two people from the country you are living in puts things in perspective.

You can't solve the problems of America or Mexico or anywhere else for that matter. Just work on your own life. Think about God's perspective on people. "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be clled sons of God."

I remember a girl in my high school doing that. It's not necessary. I live in California, and have had many latino and latina friends. One girl's dad came over the boarder and worked here for years until he had saved enough money to go back and bring his wife and family to the U.S. They have all become citizens and have contributed greatly to their city, state and the U.S.

We are strengthened and improved by our friends who come from Mexico to have a better life. Shame keeps us away from others and prevents us from making our best contribution to our schools and communities. Be proud you are Mexican!

Are you crazy? EVERY single person in US is an immigrant, think about it. In 1492 when Columbus discovered America even the indians used to move from canada to US...so dont feel you are different. Ask your american friends about their families...you will be surprised to know that they all come from other places.
