Does anyone know what the black box you get when you are on electronic home monitoring does?

this black box hooks onto the phone line and i have no idea what it does?

It tells the computer that calls you, how close you are, or if you are out of range.

well it all depends what it is fore if it is for something legal or court required it tracks your wereabouts by gps or other wise i am not to sure.
