To keep her from going all over her cage cover all the surfaces with bedding. I use old t-shirts, they're washable. Hang water bottles in some corners and food bowls in others. Ferrets won't go where they eat or sleep. Restrict her play time to one room and have several potties around the room, because ferrets get so busy playing they won't make it back to the cage all the time. If she picks a corner other than the ones that have litter boxes in them, put bedding or food there as well. Now, when she first wakes up wait to let her out until she went. Make sure she really did go, because she'll figure it out and fake it. Once she's out, watch her. See her backing up with her tail in the air grab her immediately and put her in the litter pan. Lots of praise if she goes, maybe even a treat, better luck next time if she doesn't. DO NOT EVER HIT A FERRET, even EVER SO LIGHTLY!!!! They are of a slight built and can get injured easily like that.
My four have one corner they still want to go in, it's right by the door and they do it to mark, since that is where all the strange scents get carried into the room. We are still working on that, but while we are I put down paper, like those free Classifieds you can find at the store, the gas station or Walmart. At least it saves the carpet. The idea of picking up her poo and putting it into the litter box and leaving it there for the remainder of the day is a good one too. It shows her what the box is really for instead of being just a nifty place to sleep or a swell digging box.
Good luck with your fert and remember: this is an ongoing process. Ferrets are not trainable like cats, where it's done once they figured it out. Most of them need reminders once in a while. So keep at it.

Ferrets go "potty" in corners. You should be able to find a corner liter box for them at your local pet store. The corner edge is higher than the rest...this keeps it from getting on the walls. I would try to put him/her in a smaller space and as soon as you see her start to back up grab the ferret and put it in the liter pan. Unfortunately unless you have a liter pan in every room your still going to have times where it will happen. They usually wont go to another room to find their pan. You might want to have the ferret descented and spayed/neutered that can sometimes help too.

My ferret has the same problem, I have to clean the cage several times a week. I am going to go buy 3 more corner boxes, because he uses just 2 corners of his cage, and he may not like the litter your using. I'm under the impression he hates his litter, because he dumps it out the second I put it in his box. you may have to try different litters.

Ferrets are easily trained to use a litter bix. What I did is the moment they woke up they need to go POTTY so you imed. bring them to the litter box and when they try to escape which they will do u just need to keep placing them there. They will learn to use the litter box.

first of all, the myth that a ferret could be clutter experienced like a cat is a delusion. you are able to clutter practice them, yet they are going to continuously have situations the place they omit. additionally, is your ferret an grownup or nonetheless a equipment? If an grownup this could be slightly perplexing. If a equipment, then you definitely must be ok. right here is what i've got performed with mine: one million) verify the clutter pan is massive adequate to in good shape their entire physique into 2) till now permitting them to out of the cage, tell them "flow potty!" and each and every time they step out of the clutter pan placed them lower back in. try this many times till they do some thing. whilst they do advantages them with Bandit treats or ferretone & love on 'em & compliment 'em & enable 'em comprehend he/she is the main suitable ferret interior the finished huge international. this could get them interior the habit of going potty till now leaving the cage. 3) Re: roaming time (outdoors of cage) you'll have clutter pans everywhere. they are intestines & bladders are tiny, and whilst the urge hits them to flow they flow quickly, because of the fact they don't have time to hunt for "one" clutter pan. as a result you will choose little surprises right here & there to freshen up. lower back, love & compliment & deal along with your ferret each and every time he/she makes use of the clutter pan.

Corner boxes are needed, one box in every room they have access to. Ferrets don't "learn" where to go like a cat does. if they can't see a litter pan, they don't HAVE a litter pan. Also, you can get "Corner guards" for in-cage problems. its basically a spring that goes across a corner that makes them uncomfortable to back into... so they won't go there.

Okay well ferrets, just like cats, rats or rabbits, can be litter trained. When she/he is out of its cage and goes poo, take it and put it in the litter box. Then place her in the box and show her.Everytime she goes to the bathroom put her in the box and eventually she will figure out that she has to use the washroom in the litterbox. Also make sure you rewars her when she uses it.

Most ferrets are trained to use a litter box before they are sold as pets. I guess you have to do some make up homework and train yours!
