Some are babies. Some can and do get regular/real jobs after they retire. Franco Harris runs a bakery company. Not all of them just go into broadcasting, which is almost as real as playing, assuming you don't think that playing is a real job. On the other hand do they really make too much. Come on CEOs get paid more, and an athlete doesn't last long. Avg span is proably not even 10 years. Come on Bonds has been playing about 15 years at the pro level. That's really not that long. These guys don't last, so they make alot of money to make up for the short time.

baseball is THE SINGLE hardest sport to play simply because you have to hit a round ball with a round bat..and you have the have the absolute PERFECT technique for it because mechanics is the most important part of this game..and YES I do think teachers are underpaid but anyone can be a teacher, come on..just go to school and get a degree and some more school and you're off. even though baseball players don't work the whole year like most people do, they play practically EVERY SINGLE DAY..they work hard and train hard..average working people don't normally work or train hard except work 40 hours a week..and Jedi is right..any baseball player can sit at a desk and do your job..but can you grab a bat at hit a 95 mph fastball or even harder..an 80 mph curveball with the perfect timing required to hit the ball on the perfect part of the bat??

I think athletes are good business people that play sports for a few years so they can set themselves up for the rest of their lives. I don't think they're babies. They work out and train everyday to be their best. We don't. We go to school, get a job, & end up broke. I know they can do my job and probably yours too, but why would they want to if they can play sports and be wealthy? Heck, most of US don't even want to do OUR jobs! Can u imagine training everyday, every week the way they do, then go out onto the field and risk injury everytime??? Give them some credit, man.

Professional athletes are more capable of sitting at a desk 40 hrs a week than you are of hitting a ball 95mph!

I am a teacher, and not sure that Allen Iverson could handle a group of 30 kids day after day without a fight, lol. Seriously, alot of sports stars could do a mundane job, but are darn glad they don't have to do so. We pay these people WAY too much money. Yes, they have God given talents, but please...

Some I think are and others not. Honestly, I believe most football players are worth every cent seeing as how they end their lives in pain.
