I am young(early 20's) and plan to go to graduate school in a couple of years...somehow I am getting the impression that looks play a part on how far you go not only in your career. I know that many might disagree but from my own personal experiences I think that others will help you out( not necessarily make live easier but just help you out) if your looks aren't so bad. What do you guys think?
Oh, before any one has a heart attack.... I am not saying that a use my looks to get ahead in the corporate ladder I am just saying that it doesn't hurt if you are "easy on the eyes."

Well, to answer that simply I'd simply say 'Yes'. However, your God-given looks don't play a factor alone in this answer. It is also how you present yourself. If you're not so blessed in the looks department but are a happy person who loves to share her joy with everyone then you are likely to be liked, and therefore easier to promote. Self-confidence is key. So by this standard, how much more success can a beautiful/handsome person who is kind/joyful attain.

OK, it's a fact, looks help a lot in getting your foot in the door. But ultimately, it's your brains that get you ahead. Some woman use their looks by sleeping around, but it is a dead end and a life of misery and hate from others. In a corporate world, if you have both, the world is your oyster.

Unfortunately it is true that "pretty people" can and do get more and go farther. I saw a study about it and it also affects men in that if they are short, they are less likely to go as far as men who are of average height or taller.

I suggest you never rely on that though, you, like the rest of us, is aging by the minute. So, someday you won't be able to flash a pretty smile and get the same results you do now.

Of course looks play a part, though we wish not to believe it. No one in their right mind would pick a man dressed as a bum over a suited up man if they are equally qualified. It's just the way things are.

Of course looks play a part! Do you think Cristy Brinkley would of been a top model if she looked like Roseann Barr?
