'Colour' is actually acceptable spelling among creative communities in the USA. We adopt the spelling because the roots of art and design come from our european cousins.
In order to answer your question, you would have to define how you want to apply your knowledge of colour. It could be in architecture, interior design, graphic design, textile design, or a number of other design fields. Colour is also used to modify human behavior in advertising.
