that has to be done with diagnostic equipment. the mechanic clears the codes with the use of diagnostic equipment. anyone authorized to work on your vehicle has the equipment to over-ride the code/warning. who is to say that something else isn't wrong with you vehicle? that is why it is important to let them do the diagnostic on your vehicle. they will either find something else that needs to be replaced or just simply over-ride the code so the warning light will go off.

the year of your vehicle alone should tell you that it is time for different things to wear. it could be a sensor that has gone bad so by all means let an authorized dealer clear the code and the best part it's free if it's just a code that needs to be cleared.
