That depends on how good your lawyer is ;-) I believe she's entitled to about half of everything...and a portion of his retirement.

Divorce laws are different from state to state in the US. There is a joke that what you end up with is what you're entitled to. Not a funny joke, but it's true that what you negotiate is what you end up getting whether it seems fair to not.

Just google "divorce law by state" and you should get a few websites that give basic info about divorce law in your state, like if it is a community property state or not, fault or no-fault divorce.

Did you work outside the home during the marriage? are you working now? Do you have retirement funds in your own name? If you stayed at home to raise kids while he worked outside, then you would be entitled to a good portion (50%?) of his retirement funds/pension. And possibly permanent alimony. But you need to check with his employer about that. Also, if you're in the US, you would be entitled to part of his Soc Sec Benefits if you're married after he's 62...I THINK. Not for sure, but remember reading about that somewhere online. Maybe the IRS website.

Best to get online and do some reading. And Good Luck. ;D

you get half of everything including retirement money----alimony is paid to keep you in the level of comfort that has been enjoyed by you--- certain requirements have to be met --- but you can ask for it.
