its just a matter of convenience.
Actually, most mail servers do not look for case.
So whether you send a mail to
test@yahoo.com or TEST@YAHOO.COM
it should reach test!

The same convention is followed for web URLs
www.yahoo.com and WWW.YAHOO.COM are the same address

Because lowercase email are like web addresses and the standard for these is always lowercase but there are exceptions to this rule. Strange isn't it but that's the way it's always been. Good luck!

convienence - both in typing the id and in remembering it.

basically by making it single case instead of mixed case it's easier to remember if it's "John" or "john", and since it's single case, lower case is easier to read.

(it's true - if you had a sentence in all caps and the same sentence in lowercase letters, you could read the lowercase one faster and more accurately)
