I have stood by as the taxes on smokes grew and grew. I get it, lung cancer is costing millions in healthcare and this is to off set the cost. or so they say. But what about obesity which is one of the leading killers? Why do we continue taxing smokers and leave the fast food and snack food's alone? Why am I spending all this money on smokes to go to "healthcare" for my old age when at least half of it is now spent caring for people who have slurped from the greae trap for the past 20 years?
So, do you think that they should start taxing fast food and junk food the way they tax smokes to offset the price of health care associated with obesity or should smokers take all the weight in taxes when obese people have just as much blame to claim?

The ASSumption that I am thin and therefor against fat people is simply STUNNED. Obesity is often caused by poor eating habits and the choice to not work out. "Second hand obesity" isn't the issue, fast food that causes obesity and junk food causing obesity and in turn heart attack, diabetes, cancers, poor circulation and so on is the problem. To date obesity is as much if not more so a killer. The tax I implied wasn't on "fat people" it was to go on unhealthy foods that are causing obesity and a host of other health problems that are killing our nation. Was that slow enough for those that are being jerks? Were my words small enough simply stunned ;)

I' m fat but I understand, they should raise the price WE ALL pay for going out to eat unhealthly gressy foods, face it, there are more fat people than there are smokers, so if they raise the snack and tobacco prices they should also raise the price of boose.

So you're going to start tracking everyone? It's a good arguement, but really, less and less people are going to eat at restaurants, and the businesses will lose money, causing even more financial damage. Of course, obese-right lobbyists are going to off that immediately, if they even exist.

Why don't we tax tax tax the death out of foreign products? As much as I'd like a 360 Modena someday, that's where the real money is.

Neither. We have enough taxes now. The government should try something new like spending less money. That's what I usually do when I don't have enough to cover my expenses.

It is ridiculous that we tax people to try to make them live there lives as we think they should. Taxes should be put in place responsibly and only used to pay for necessary government expenses. Taxes should not be used to punish people for doing things that are completely legal that we do not agree with.
