Who gets deployed first??

Army active duty or Army reserves?
Navy active duty or Navy reserves?
Airforce reserves or active duty??

I guess what I'm asking is ... what are my chances of deployment by going into medicine in the Air Force reserves?

I dont mind being activated or deployed so much as so long as I dont have to be in combat. I wanna defend this country, but I'm one of those "smart kids" whose brain power would help the country alot more than picking up a weapon. Thats why I wanna be a doctor in the military .. to help the soldiers.

While it is true that it is generally active duty first and then reserves, this is a time of war. Our active duty troops are being stretched thin. I have friends in 3rd ID who will be back less than a year before they deploy again. they will be in Iraq 2 Christmases in a row. The military is now activating more and more reserves to give the guys who have already deployed 2 and 3 times a break. Needless to say, I think you have a good chance of being deployed either way. Right now, most guys who enlist are being told up front to be prepared to deploy within 6 months of finishing AIT. Any job you take, you have to be ready to deploy. We need medics to help save our troops who are being hurt. You may also want to talk to a recruiter. Here at Fort Stewart/HAAF the majority of medical staff on base are civilians so that the military guys are deployable at all times.

They get activated when their needed. There's no specific time. It depends on the emergency. My husband was in the Army active duty and then in the reserves. He's retired now, but was activated by both at 2 different times. Hope that helps.

It's always active duty first, the reserves second.

The choice between army, airforce and navy depends on the location, for something like Indonesia it's definitely navy, for something like Iraq it's army.

I think airforce reserves only gets called up when they run out of people on active duty.

i'm Canadian and it works differently here but I do know that the last few deployments have contained a mixture of active duties and reservists. As a doctor you would probably have the right to request o go overseas. I have a friend in the American Armed Forces and she as had friends who requested overseas placement.

no procedure for deployment, other than need. But, why are you planning or wanting to join any outfit but not expecting to be activated? Be prepared! because it's certainly possible. If you don't want to be activated or deployed -- don't join up.

In this time, it's a pretty good chance.
