Does a strong defense make for exploitation, free enterprise and Democracy or is it exploitation, free enterprise and Democracy that makes for a strong defense?

For the sake of this answer, I shall assume that you are referring to American versions of these principles, and not those of Athenian Greece.

Well, long before the American version of Democracy was laid out, there was plenty of exploitation and free enterprise. So we can put Democracy in the "not first category." (Not sure if that's chicken or egg.) The question arises as to whether Democracy predates defense. In the American colonies, defense was coordinated between colonial garrisons funded and deployed by their European governors. Defense predates Democracy.

You suggest that exploitation and enterprise are tied together, and that both apply in conjunction with Democracy. If this was true, then defense would be first. I choose to believe that this statement is false. Enterprise predates Democracy, as the basic idea behind the exploration was Enterprise, followed by exploitation. Then defense.

1. Enterprise
2. Exploitation ( a variation of Enterprise)
3. Defense (usually against the Exploited)
4. Democracy (attempt to divide Enterprise, Exploitation, and Defense equitably)

The egg. Because, man, in his greed and gluttony would have eaten the chicken right away. Leaving there be no chicks today.

I would say the evolutionary predecessor of the chicken, probably some sort of weird reptile hybrid.

Oil!

First came oil, then all those wacky machines that run on it.

Now it's time to get rid of oil before it kills us altogether.

(Of course, the egg did)
