1/2. A good thing to do in this case is to multiply the top and bottom of each fraction by a number to get the same bottom for both fractions. You can take any fraction and multiply the top and bottom by the same number and still have the same fraction. For example, with the fraction 5/9, you can multiply it by 4/4 (which is really the number one, since four goes into four one time) to get 5/9 x 4/4 = 20/36. 20/36 = 5/9. So for your fractions, multiply 1/3 by 2/2 to get a six in the bottom with the resulting fraction 2/6. Then take your second fraction 1/2 and multiply it by 3/3 to get 3/6. Now you can see it clearly. Since 3/6 is greater than 2/6, then 1/2 is greater than 1/3. Hope this helps.

With fractions, remember that the bigger the denominator (the bottom number), the more pieces you have altogether. That makes the pieces smaller to make the whole. If you cut a pie in half, you have 2 pieces. If you cut a pie into thirds, you've got 3 smaller pieces.

1/2 oz is bigger.

1/2 is bigger. Just remember when working with fractions you are working with part of a whole. To find whats bigger simply divide smaller number into larger number, this will give you the decimal equivelent. Example.
1/2=0.5
1/3=0.33333333333
5/8=0.625
7/8=0.875
11/16=0.6875
15/16=0.9375
25/32=0.78125
remember if both numbers are divisable by 2 then do so.
30/32 = 15/16
14/16 = 7/8
and so on.
hope this helps with your fraction dilemmas
