I just recently split with my husband. I have four children and a limited income. I left my hubby and moved in with my mom for a few weeks until I could find an affordable place to stay. I found a 3 bedroom apartment not far from my mom's place. The land lady is an old college buddy of mine and she is only chargeing me $400.00 a month for rent (this also includes heat and electricity). It's a 1st floor apartment with a cozy living room and large dining room and spacy kitchen. I like the place but now that I've been back home my mom wants me to stay with her and help her with her mortgage payment. She has a fixed income and is barely making ends meet. I am so torn between having total freedom and privacy and helping out my mom. I know she could probably use the 400.00 a month plus I always buy all the food. What do you think?

Why don't you have your Mom come and live with you in the new place- I'm guessing not enough bedrooms and -yeah-there's that privacy issue.Does your Mom have any friends who would room with her and split the rent? Do some brainstorming of what her options could be: including subsidized housing or cooperative housing...

This is something you are going to have to give alot of thought to. She can't possibly expect you to live with her forever, but she could be lonely and having all of you around creates happiness for her. The other plus, is that it is helping her financially...BUT you have to do what makes you happy as you are also an adult and Mom now. The chances of you getting back with your husband is another possibility she should realize, so you need to make this decision and whatever you decide she should accept and support it.

I would go with my own place. You'll never have privacy with your mom at home. But if you can't afford living on your own, don't even try to b/c u might end ^ back at her place.

Well, unless your name is on her house too, then I wouldn't do it. You'll be living in her house and have to go by her rules, and when she gets mad at you you'll have nowhere to go. Good luck:)
