my pc is protected by AVG and on the last scan told me that I have 5 infected files..which it says are imbedded in the archive, and one trojan in there somewhere as well. AVG does not give me a way to get them out of there and I don't know how to do it otherwise. I am SO not techno savvy about this sort of thing and I need HELP.. NOW!! If you can help me with this, you won't only get the 10 points for best answer, but you will have my UNDYING gratitude for LIFE!! PLEASE explain it VERY simply for my un-techno brain to comprehend.. I am an English major.. NOT a computer engineer.. PLEASE and THANK YOU.

You could try a system restore to before you became infected.

AVG is good, so don't worry about that. You also need other things to protect your computer. The suggestion for Microsoft tool virus remover is good as is the one regarding windows one care. Hera are some more tips.

Anti-spyware (all free)

Essential products are: Adaware SE from: http://www.lavasoft.com

Spybot SD http://www.safer-networking.org/en/spybotsd/index.html

Spywareblaster http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

Windows Defender - from Microsoft downloads.

PC starter kit at download.com 20 of the best recommended programes for people new or less advanced in computers. Check all three pages, at bottom see Security/Tools/Fun

http://www.download.com/PC-Starter-Kit/2001-12350_4-0.html?tag=dir

C Cleaner.http://www.ccleaner.com/

This will tell you a lot about what is on your computer, such as running programmes, cookies, History, settings etc. and will help you clean up and remove unwanted items. Be careful how you use it as it is a very powerful programme and you should read the help index before you do anything with it.

Hope this information is of help to you and others.

It all depends on what archive the infected files are in. System Restore? Antispyware archives? System Volume Information folder?

Each poses a different route in order to delete the files. Sorry, wish I could be more help.

You could try getting rid of AVG and getting AntiVir (which is better and is also free!)

Clear your System Restore by turning it off temporarlly. Clear your Temporary Internet Files. Then run your AVG in Safe Mode.
The chances are good that what you are seeing is simply traces of a previous infection that is no longer active.
Most infections will cause many more files than 5 to show an indication of infection.

The open source and freeware courses like spybot seek for and spoil stand as a lot as date oftentimes and are very efeective, If all else fails attempt Malwarebytes, that is loose also. even as your at it grab Ccleaner for somewhat registry cleanup, which will fix the different insects on your equipment
