I suppose it might be Persian but have never found a translation which translated those last words

You're right ! It's a persian word and it means "It ends". like the word "the end" that is regularly used at the end of the movies.

not really and answer...but i'd like to point out that it bugs me whem books written in english throw in lots of untranslated foreign languages. agreed one can always take efforts to look them up and find out (just as you have done)...but gee...it sure would be nice of they could include it in a footnote or something. So did you enjoy the reading...i beleive i have a copy of this but have never read it...
