I've heard it explained this way.In capitalism, you buy a cow.You feed it,you milk it,you turn the milk into butter and cheese, you sell it for whatever you can get for it,you buy more feed, pay the vet,and make a profit, which is taxed.

In socialism, you buy a cow,as allowed by the state. You feed it,you milk it,you turn the milk into butter and cheese, but only the types allowed by the state.,and you have to sell it at prices determined by the state. The state taxes you on the price of the milk, but they supply the vet.The cost of feed is also controlled by the state.

In Communism, the state owns the cow,the state owns the milk the cow produces, the state collects whatever products you make from the milk for distribution, and if you get caught drinking any of the milk, they shoot you.

In Nazism, the state owns the cow,the state owns you,the cow ends up butchered to supply meat to the eastern front, and you get to starve to death for the glory of the fatherland.
