I'm going to college this fall and I dont know if it's better to single or double. I want to have my own privacy and allow my friends and girlfriend to come over at anytime, so I'm not sure if i should do a single or double. What do you think/

I recieved $15,000 in scholarships. If I dorm alone I will have to pay about 22,000 all together, for the entire year, including food and utilities. If I dorm with someone else I would save $1,500 throughout the entire year. I would say $1,500 is worth the privacy, but it seems as though everyone loved their experience with a roomate. Without concern towards money, is a double the better choice?

Well for a single dorm you do have that privacy and personal space but you usually have to foot all the bills for yourself. Now for a double, there wouldn't be much privacy but the good thing is you could share the bills like for food. You could share it with a person you trust. You could also have the potential to make a new friend if you go through the university to match you up with someone. The one thing with bunking with someone you don't know is the whole trust issue of whether or not they will respect your property and privacy. Mainly, its up to you if you like you alone time or if you like spending it with other people.

Double for many reasons.

A) It's cheaper.
B) You meet more people and are forced to interact with more people
C) The rooms are bigger. Entertaining in a room designed for one person gets cramped.

As far as your GF coming over anytime...odds are you guys will be able to work out a system. Just try not to sexile him too many times.

I lived alone 2nd semester jr year when my roommate was abroad and they didn't assign me a replacement, it was nice to have the whole room to myself but it got very lonely, especially on the weekends when everyone went home.

Definitely double. You won't meet new people if you are isolated in a single room and you'll miss out on the BEST part of college.

Single! Having a roommate is nice, but you have to be aware of the type of person you are and if you are willing to compromise on things, like study hours, sleep time, etc.

If your a naturaly social person, get a single. Because of your social skills, you should have no problem meeting new people. If your not like that, then get a single, then mabye you can be friends with your roommates friends. It worked wonders for one of my friends.

I would dorm single if possible, but space is sometimes unavailable and it usually costs more, too. There will be plenty of socializing opportunities outside of your dorm room.
