ok, i dont think all rap is bad, but poetry? did you happen to notice the lyrics in most popular rap songs at all, and their similarity to what a potty mouthed 4th grader might write?

Rap is technically poetry. I am not a fan of rap, but there are some well-written lyrics by certain artists. However, the current version of rap has abused the definition of the genre, and it has been ruined with ridiculous lyrics associated with sex, violence, etc. And, all the artists are the same. So, I suppose they are artists, but most seriously don't deserve the title.

I agree 100% with "lifeisbeautiful928." Today's mainstream rappers have pretty much ruined hip hop's reputation.

Luckily for those of us who haven't given up on it, we still have the underground rap circuit. There's still some good, quality hip hop out there if you take the time to look for it.

I agree! You can't really call that singing....it's talking really fast and rhyming words. Anyone, with a little practice, could do that.
