After years of fleet experience, I have found that just about the cheapest certified oil will do. Oil changes between 3,000 and 5,000 miles will give great protection. I have always used Mobil, Exxon or Shell brands. Unless you want to race or keep your engine for over 200,000 miles, buying expensive or synthetic oil is just a waste. I have not seen many oil related engine problems since fuel injection.

Castrol GTX is what I use, I have found over the years that the synthetic hype, is just that, all hype. No benefits from synthetic that you couldn't get from using conventional. All oil needs to be changed, and regularly, that is the most important aspect. I have replaced engines for people that have tried 30,000 mile intervals, pulled the pan and looked like chocolate pudding, left the impression of the pick-up tube in the gelatinous mess that was one day motor oil, and then wonder why the bearings are shot, and the engine sounds like a bag of ball-peen hammers. It doesn't matter what brand of oil you use, just change it at least every 5,000 miles, your engine will love you for it.

There are two types of crude oil. Parafene base and ash base. The paraphene based oils are Pennsylvania sources. Paraphene oils break down at lower temperatures and can cause engine failure in high heat conditions. Today's small engines work harder and run hotter so the ash based oils are what I recommend. Valvoline, NAPA or Chevron.

mobil 1 is the best car motor oil. I've been using it for years. With 5w-20 with my car. The car is now 65k miles on it. Especially with synthetic oil. Although it cost me $5.80 per quart, but my car is running smooth, quiet and save gas.

This can be argued forever.Bottom line pick a good name brand oil and change it every 3000 miles along with the filter and what brand oil you use will not matter.

Pennzoil, not only the best selling, has the best basestock among conventional oils..... or havoline....
I've found valvoline to have THE weakest additive pack of all oils.... napa brand (made by valvoline) is of course even weaker.

PERSONALLY i stopped being brand loyal with oil years ago!! all oil has to meet the same SAE(SOCIETY OF AUTOMOTIVE ENGINEERS) specs. always make sure the oil you are buying has a star-burst symbol on it. i have started to switch over to all synthetic oils because of their superior engineering compared to petro oils. but they cost more too!! i like to catch oil on sale and stock up with a rebate deal. i try to buy one of these if possible. mobil 1, Pennzoil platinum or Havoline synthetic because usually one of these will be on sale somewhere, sometime!!
