First off, it is not allergies. Every so often my eyes will explode in massive amounts of pain and start to water. Almost like having hot pepper juice in my eye (or something like it). It happens at any time; when I'm driving, walking, watching TV, anytime. It could be one or the other or both. I went to the eye doctor and they said they didn't know what it is. It is totally random, I might not have an attack for months or it could happen daily. It happens all year and in any location.
Please only serious replies.
Thanks...

I do not wear contacts, and I know for sure the problem isn't allergies. I have checked and see when the problem happens and it is totally random. I have tried eye drops and nothing works.

I have this problem -- and it happens to me pretty much every day.
I saw the eye doctor for it, and he suggested it was allergies -- and while I think certain things may aggravate it, I've come to the conclusion that it's not a strictly allergy problem.
For a while I was taking a prescription eyedrop (can't rememeber what it was called) to keep my eyes from being so teary, and it worked very well. Every once and a while, because they were so dry, my eyes would burn, and I would treat that with an over-the-counter natural tears eyedrop to reach an equilibrium.
That worked well until I went to school and became horridly poor and could no longer afford the drops -- but this may be an avenue you and your eye doctor may want to explore.
Good luck!

I agree, these are the exact symptoms of allergies. First you need to ask yourself, what are you doing differently in the times that you DO have this reaction. Is it a different shampoo? Are you inhaling smoke? Are you in an area subjected to a lot of pollen, dirt, pollution? Maybe it's from the AC? Do you wear contacts? Also, it's not just environmental factors, genetics also plays a role. So...the possibilities are endless. But in any case, your objective (I'm guessing) is to treat this problem. You have a couple options, home remedies or conventional medicine... it's completely up to you. Conventional Medicine: * Go to a doctor, and (**important**) request to see a specialist in allergies. The doctor will run tests and quickly determine exactly what it is you are allergic to so that you can avoid those things all together. * If it's an unavoidable environmental issue, your doctor might simply prescribe Claritin, Singulair, or other such allergy medications. Home Remedies: * For red and itchy eyes, wash your eyes with plain black tea (example: Lipton). Just make sure it's unflavored! Simply add a tea bag to a small 8 oz glass, pour boiling water, and wait several minutes for it to get cool and very dark in color. Once the tea is at a warm, and bearable in temperature, rinse your eyes out with the tea solution and make sure you are getting as much of the black tea into your eyes as possible. * For stuffy nose, you can purchase a neti pot from a health food store (like WholeFoods) and follow the instructions using a salt water mixture. The first couple times feels awkward, but you will quickly get used to it and find that it solves other problems you might be experiencing (such as headaches or stuffy head). I will link you at the bottom. I hope this is helpful, as I know burning watery eyes are not fun, and neither are stuffy noses! Good luck!

It's important to know if you wear contacts or not. If you do, remove them. Burning and watering can be a sign of two things. One would be corneal injury. The other would be dry eyes which could be caused by simply not blinking or a defect in your tear production. While it sounds opposite of what you need for tearing, one of the best things you can do is use a moisturizing drop like Refresh tears or any kind or artificial tear regularly (4-5 times a day or more) for several days (one without preservatives is best, since the preservatives can tend to irritate.) One cue to an injury is light sensativity, which you did not mention. If you have that, get thee to a doctor!!!! Otherwise , remove the contacts and try the drops. If you see redness(more than usual for you) or get a pus-like discharge, get to the eye doctor. Let me know how you are. Optimom2020@yahoo.com.

Well, I sleep with my eyes partially open, and I wear contacts, so I suffer from watery eyes a great deal. My doctor told me about a gel eye drop called Systane. You can buy it at CVS, Walgreens or the like. It's very thick, so I wouldn't use it with contacts. I put it in every night before bed, and it really helps.
Has your doctor checked to see if you're blinking regularly? Not doing this can cause your eyes to dry out and water profusely.

This is a tough one. My first thought went to allergies but you said that is not the case. Did you ask your medical doctor? Maybe the eye pain is from migranes or something else. Sometimes we have referred pain. I would seek some more medical attention. Good luck to you.

Take note when it happens. In other words, what is always the common factor when that happens. It could be something as simple as a sweater you wear. Hope this helps.

It might be your contacts. I had a pair of O2s from Ciba Vision that did that to me. Try calling them up and letting them know you have a defective pair.
Otherwise, see an optometrist.
