I take Nortriptyline for chronic migraines and back pain caused by 2 herniated discs. I know that this medication cannot be taken while pregnant, but if I don't take something or do something about the pain then I can hardly walk. (because of the discs) What are my options. We really want to be able to have kids someday.

I know this is a question for my OB/GYN. I plan on talking to her about it as well. I was just trying to get suggestions or personal experiences to get ideas from.

I recently saw a news special regarding back problems and they found that people who opted for physical therapy did much better than those doing surgery. Do you want to be on medications all your life? They aren't solving the problem. If I were you, I'd get my back in shape, which will help the migraines too, because being pregnant will put a great strain on your back. Also, you need to give that medication time to leave your system if you've taken it for a while. When you get back in shape, wein yourself from the medication and give yourself a few months to "detox" from it.

This is NOT a question for strangers. Please go see your doctor - take your husband, and the 3 of you discuss options. This is too important and complicated to just toss it out here to people without medical training and a knowledge of your history.

The best person to give you a safe answer will be a doctor...don't ask anyone you don't know on internet

Talk to your Dr.
Some meds stay in your system.
And if you have bad back pain, when you get prego it will be worse, so you need to know waht you can do then.
