depends. I'm partial to etnies for skating. they tend to have more padding on the side of the shoe for busting tricks, and not wearing that "skater hole" in the side of the shoe too quickly. they're also more insulated.

DEfinetly Vans. slip ons. Etnies are too chunky for my taste.
However, Vans chunky shoes are heavier than etnies.

vans are more comfortable after you ware them in and etnies are more comfortable to start but not in the long run

i like etnies better, they're more skater. vans are more pop, as in 12 year old girls wearing pink ones to school

etnies all the way, vans are too flat, I suppose it depends on your foot a little too though
