stand back and be amused at what is presented to me. a cover can be a cover up and the text could be someone else's words. so, i guess instead of judging or reading, i go on what i'm absorbing and feeling in a realistic matter.

I never judge a book by it's cover. There is a story behind the cover and if you don't give the first few pages a chance then you might be missing out on something bigger and better than the cover ever let on. Some books need certain types of readers to really appreciate the story being told, just any ordinary reader might miss all the details the story wants a true reader to know.

Tough question. I have been known to judge the "literal" book by it's cover and taken a "pass" on it if it didn't catch my eye. I've ignored the "cover" when it comes to music and movies. As far as passing judgment on the human-book, I'm not so vain as to avoid checking out the title page and table of contents before I decide to move onto a different book that might be more interesting, humorous...one that will hold my attention until the end.

I tend to form an opinion of the book by its cover, but i read the text before making my final decision.

Ummm... depends. If you consider the title a part of "text" then both.
My prefered way of finding a book:
1. Look at special spines on library/bookstore shelves.
2. Look at the cover, title, and author.
3. If still undecided look at text.

Unfortunately, beauty is pretty much a deciding factor for most of us as shallow as it is but it's a sad fact. Rarely people look past that to get to personality.
Normally, I give that guy the benefit of the doubt & not simply dismiss him just because he was unattractive or what not, etc. But I'll be ambiguous about it and weigh it out albeit through friendship to see what are his other traits before making that final decision.

Never judge a book by its cover. Never go by first impressions. Unfortunately, they are not always the best.
Case and point: I did an internship in college one trimester--and thank God, for me, that first impressions aren't always the best--the head of my internship told me at the end of the term that if she had gone by the first impression I made, I never would have had a chance. Subsequently, they hired me to work for them for the remainder of the year.
You'll never know if it's a good story unless you crack the binding...

I look at the cover first, then read a paragraph or two. If I like it I read more until I am finished or their is a second book or more.

I actually do... if the cover looks stupid, I won't even bother looking at the back, same goes with movies.
