I'm a 23 year old mechanical engineer. I've had experience (well not much considering my age) with both the office engineering job and the field engineering job. And after doing the office job for about a year, I know that I can't last in the environment. So I was wondering what my options are. I've been looking into environmental engineering and civil engineering, but I don't know if the companies would be willing to take the time to train me. I'm looking for an engineering job that is not only outdoors and exciting, but also challenging and rewarding. Simply put, I don't have the capacity or energy to sit and stare at a computer all day, every day until I retire. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

I was going to school for electrical engineering and after going on a couple of informational interviews and really getting a look at Corporate America for my field I was not excited. I was actually totally freaking out. I thought I had wasted so much time and energy going to school but that if I didn't get a great job that went with my degree then I would never make any serious money. Oil companies and oil service companies are hiring frantically. Try Schlumberger, Baker Hughes, etc.
